The weekender
Posted on Friday, January 18, 2013

When I lived in Texas, I had the luxury of having a legitimate reason to get out of town every weekend I wished to. I had parents to visit here in Las Vegas. Enjoyed the late night flights and early morning arrivals, flying out after work and flying in just before clocking in. I wasn't a frequent flyer before but the whole parents excuse gave me a leeway to learn how to be an efficient packer. Especially when you fly Spirit? Oh boy, you only get one bag. One. Or you pay extra. I'm currently packing for a weekend trip to Los Angeles hence this blog: a few tips on how to pack a weekender bag; traveling light with the essentials and the cutest outfits.

1. The bag
It all starts with the bag. You would need an average sized weekender bag (think this Louis Vuitton). But since I'm cheap, I got me this Marc Jacobs bargain for $160 at Nordstroms. Spacious and very sturdy. This oldie and I have been traveling together for years and though it has started chipping some, the handles haven't died a bit.

2. One (just one!) ziplock bag
If you're riding a plane it's always best to keep traveling with liquids on a low. Target, Walmart, and a lot of convenience stores have a variety of travel sized essentials to accommodate flyers. Personally, I only bring my small bottle of perfume, hairspray, and make up remover. Generic stuff such as shampoo, lotion, and toothpaste can be left out. These are easily available everywhere, unless you're particular with a brand.

3. Leggings, leggings, leggings
Jeans are heavy and can bulk up your small luggage. It's easier to pack, wear, and wash leggings when you're on a short vacation.

4. Thin shirts, button downs, blouses, sundresses
Just like leggings, these items can help lighten the weight of your weekender. Tip: if it's cold, layer up with button downs just like how I did on the picture below.

5. Ballet flats or sandals
Since it's only a two or three-day vacay, it wouldn't hurt not to wear those bulky boots and heels. Usually I go to the city or the beach where these two aren't even necessary, hence the ballet flats for the night out and the sandals for the day at the shore.

I also keep a small messenger bag (see my coach one here) since leggings don't usually come with pockets and this satchel is a lot easier to carry around than a shoulder or handbag. As a frequent weekender, I'll say that this routine hasn't failed once. I hope these tips can help you pack efficiently for a fun weekend!

First Pitch
Posted on Tuesday, January 15, 2013

I would like to start off by saying hello. Again. It has been a few years since I attempted writing. Abandoned all blogs, left all my readers who I've grown to become friends with, and completely forgot this open realm of expression we call "blogging". I remember when blogging used to be a self-manifestation of our day, our obsessions, or frustrations. Nowadays, most blogs contain gossip about celebrities or advertisements. Don't get me wrong. Great ideas! But sometimes when you find yourself sitting in an empty room by yourself, with a devastatingly self-destructive Hannah from Girls on TV, and an unexpected farewell in your family, you would look for a new venue to let it all out. Not a towel to cry on or a bucket of ice-cream. For me, it used to be writing and it will be, again, my resort.
